Men's Soccer Hosts Indy Eleven Friday Night in Spring Opener

Kickoff set for 7 p.m., ET at Lynn Stadium as UofL alum Daniel Keller returns with Indy Eleven
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team will open its spring exhibition schedule against Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League on Friday at 7 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Admission is free for the match.
Friday's contest will be the first of five spring matches for the Cardinals as they prepare for their 12th season under the guidance of head coach Ken Lolla. The match will feature the return of Louisville men's soccer alumnus Daniel Keller, who scored six goals and had four assists in 74 matches for the Cardinals from 2011-14. A native of Carmel, Indiana, Keller is entering his third season with Indy Eleven after being selected in the third round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Following Friday's match, the Cardinals will continue their spring slate with a visit to the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer on Saturday, March 25. UofL will return home to host Wisconsin on Saturday, April 1 at 7 p.m., before closing the home schedule against Xavier on Friday, April 7 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals will conclude the spring at Lindsey Wilson College on Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m.
Louisville closed the 2016 season ranked No. 6 nationally in the final NSCAA Top 25 and finished with a 14-6-2 record after advancing to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship for the fourth time in the last seven seasons. The Cardinals return All-American defender Tim Kubel and All-ACC forward Mohamed Thiaw for their senior seasons in 2017.
A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Kubel earned NSCAA Second Team All-America honor and was MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist after scoring three goals and matching a school record with 11 assists while starting all 22 matches at right back last fall. Thiaw ranked second in the nation with seven game-winning goals and was 14th in the NCAA and second in the ACC with 12 total goals while earning All-ACC First Team honors in his first season with the Cardinals.
