L&N Federal Credit Union Arena has been the ultimate home court advantage for the Cardinals and received a major renovation in the summer of 2017.
Originally Cardinal Arena, the venue was renamed L&N Federal Credit Union Arena on April 18, 2019. L&N Federal Credit Union, a cooperative, not-for-profit financial institution located in Louisville, committed $2 million to University of Louisville Athletics and the arena is now adorned with its name.
The University of Louisville has the rare privilege of having the venue serve as a volleyball-only facility. The newly refurbished on-campus arena increased in seating, which includes added end zone seating to create a mezzanine, and features a new Teraflex floor, and retooled lobby. The locker rooms, training room, players' lounge, and common areas all were refurbished in the process. Just inside the arena's revamped entrance is the remodeled concession counter, which is a full-service facility that features food, soft drinks and beer.
Louisville fans are right on top of the action and help make L&N Federal Credit Union Arena the most welcoming arena for Cardinals and the most daunting for their opponents. The intimacy of the venue allows the crowd's energy to bolster the Cardinals as they face top non-conference opponents before battling ACC foes through a challenging conference slate.
The first volleyball win in Cardinal Arena was on Aug. 31, 1991, a 3-1 win over Morehead State, and the Cardinals own an 87 percent winning percentage in the facility entering the 2017 season.
During the 2011-16 seasons, the Cardinals also played at the KFC Yum! Center, a 22,000-seat state-of-the-art arena. The venue is an option for future events.
Prior to the existence of the SAC, the Cardinals played in Manual Gym from 1977-90 as well as various other facilities in the area.
