McKay qualified for the championships following a fifth place finish in a field of 231 runners at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Nov. 15. This marks the second time in women's program history that a runner will compete at the championships, the last coming in 2006 when McKay finished 106th.

The Cardinal women have been led all season by McKay who won two individual titles, Mid-America Opener and Navy Invitational, while finishing as runner-up at the Greater Louisville Classic. She has been U of L's number one runner since her arrival in 2006. During that time span, McKay has collected five meet titles, three runner-up finishes, and been named All-BIG EAST and All-Region performer three consecutive times.
