The No. 15 University of Louisville women's volleyball team will travel to Syracuse and Marquette for their next two matches. The team will play Syracuse on Oct. 19 in Syracuse, N.Y. at 3:00 p.m., ET. The next match will be held on Oct. 21 in Milwaukee, Wis. against Marquette at 2:00 p.m., ET.
The Syracuse Orange (9-13, 1-6 BIG EAST) have an overall record at home this year of 2-2. Syracuse's offensive attack is led by outside hitter Silvi Uattara who has recorded 256 kills this season (3.66 k/s). Syracuse has balanced the offensive attack with the play of Andrea Fisher, Samantha Clarey, and Nicolette Serratore. Andrea Fisher has recorded 161 kills (2.12 k/s), Samantha Clarey has 154 kills this season (2.11 k/set), and Nicolette Serratore has added 148 kills (2.03 k/s) on the year for the Orange. Setter Emily Betteridge has been setting up her teammates on offense as she has gathered 618 assists this year (8.96 a/s).
The Marquette Golden Eagles (17-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) are 10-3 at home this season and are currently in the midst of a 10-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles will play Cincinnati on Oct. 19 prior to playing the Cardinals. In the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, Marquette came in just outside of the Top 25 in voting at No. 27.
Marquette has tabbed BIG EAST Conference wins against Syracuse, Notre Dame, DePaul, Pittsburgh, USF, Seton Hall, and Rutgers. The Golden Eagles have also tabbed a non-conference win against Michigan who is ranked No. 29 in the latest AVCA Coaches poll.
The Golden Eagles use a strong offensive attack that is headed by Holly Mertens, Daniella Carlson, Lindsey Gosh, and Erin Lehman. Holly Mertens leads the team with 229 kills on the year for an average of 3.01 kills per set. Danielle Carlson ranks second on the squad with 220 kills (2.89 k/set), next is Lindsey Gosh with 218 kills (2.87 k/set), and fourth on the team is Erin Lehman with 191 kills (2.51 k/set). The balanced attack for the Golden Eagles has led to an attack percentage of .270 on the year and Marquette has held opponents to a percentage of only .184. Setter Elizabeth Koberstein leads the team in assists with 866, for an average of 11.39 per set. Kelsey Mattai has been a strong presence for Marquette at the net as she has 83 blocks this season for an average of 1.15 per set.
The Cardinals next match will be on Oct. 28 against Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cards will return home for matches on Nov. 2 against Villanova and on Nov. 4 when they play host to Georgetown. In the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, Marquette came in just outside of the Top 25 in voting in at No. 27.
