The AVCA Coaches Poll has voted the University of Louisville women's volleyball team No. 15 in the nation for the second straight week. This marks the seventh consecutive week that the Cardinals have been ranked in the Top 25 of the AVCA Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals (18-3, 7-1 BIG EAST) were ranked No. 15 in the Oct. 8 poll as well and received 631 total points that week. Louisville saw their total points in the poll rise to 642 after only suffering one defeat to No. 8 Texas and wining against St. John's and Connecticut this past week.
Senior middle blocker Gwen Rucker was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after she averaged 2.57 kills and 1.79 blocks per set last week; totaled 11 blocks and 11 kills against St. John's on Oct. 12.
The Cardinals now have wins against four current Top 25 teams this season. The matches won include victories against No. 17 Purdue, No. 19 Western Kentucky, No. 24 Miami, and No. 25 Illinois. The Cardinals also defeated then-No. 10 Kentucky, who now stands at No. 26 in voting in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
Two of the three losses this season for the Cardinals have come to Top 25 teams. Louisville has been defeated by No. 1 Penn State and No. 8 Texas.
The Cards will play Marquette, who is ranked No. 27 in voting in the AVCA Coaches Poll on Oct. 21 in Milwaukee, Wis. Prior to that match, Louisville will face Syracuse on Oct. 19 in Syracuse, N.Y.
