The No. 17-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team posts a school record high RPI of 4. Only Penn State, Stanford and Nebraska are higher.
The Ratings Percentage Index is based on strength of both a team's winning percentage and strength of schedule. The RPI bases a team's strength on both its winning percentage and strength of schedule. It comprises a team's winning percentage (25 percent), its opponent's winning percentage (50 percent) and the winning percentage of its opponent's opponents (25 percent). Ratings percentage index is a crucial formula used for determining NCAA Championship seeding.
"We are truly excited to be fourth in the RPI," said U of L head coach Anne Kordes. "The RPI is simply the number that you strive for that directly affects your seed and opportunity to host a first and second NCAA Round. We have to schedule very specifically with RPI in mind and a lot of that is determined before we open conference play in the first four weeks of the season. I am proud how we prepared to get right to work. Now we have to protect our RPI and that is our number one priority in these next two months."
The Cardinals are 14-2 for the season and have six wins over Top-50 RPI teams (6-2): Purdue (10), Kentucky (17), Miami (23), Western Kentucky (31), Duke (37), Illinois (43). U of L has two top 50 opponents still to come in Texas (15) and Marquette (42).
