The Louisville Cardinals will host the BIG EAST/ Big Ten Challenge this Friday and Saturday evening at Cardinal Arena. U of L will play host to Purdue at 7. Cincinnati will play the first match taking on #5 Illinois at 4:30 on Friday.
The Louisville Cardinals (5-2) are led by Lola Arslanbekoya and will play Purdue Boilermakers (8-1) . On Saturday, the Cards will take on the Illinois at 7. Cincinnati, coming into the tournament with an 8-3 record will meet up with Illinois on Friday at 4:30.
The Cardinals are coming off a 3-set sweep at Wright State last Friday. U of L is led by Lola Arslanbekoya and her team-leading 102 kills. The Cards are starting a homestretch after playing their last 5 matches on the road. Eleven of the next 13 games will be at Cardinal Arena. U of L looks to get a win against a tough Purdue team that has beat the Cards three times in the last two years.
Purdue is riding a 6-match winning streak after winning the Active Ankle Challenge title in West Lafayette. Purdue is led by the tournament MVP Ariel Turner, who had 15 kills against Belmont in the title match. This will be the Boilers' wrap up part of the non-conference schedule before getting into the Big Ten slate.
The #3 Fighting Illini come into Cardinal Arena after losing a grueling 5 set match to #7 Nebraska in Lincoln, in front of nearly 12,000 fans. It was the first loss of the year for the Illini giving them an 8-1 record. In that match the Illini were missing two key All-Americans for most of the game Michelle Bartsch went down with an apparent ankle injury and senior Laura DeBruler with an illness. They will look to get things back on track when facing Cincinnati on Friday.
The Cincinnati Bearcats are coming off a 3-1 win against Auburn last Saturday and winning the Bearcat Invitational where they beat Kentucky in the final 3-2. The Bearcats are led by senior Stephanie Niemer who has posted 30 kills against Auburn. This will be a test before beginning BIG EAST play.
