July 1, 2010
The University of Louisville volleyball team has released its 2010 schedule that will feature two highly competitive home tournaments and a total of 17 home dates for the reigning BIG EAST Tournament Champions.
"This is a very strong schedule that will test our young team ," said U of L coach Leonid Yelin. "We believe the freshman and the returners will be challenged right off the bat and this will pay off big time at the end of the season."
U of L will start the season by hosting Ohio U and North Dakota State, both of whom had a top 45 RPI. The Cardinals will make their first visit to Lexington in six years as the rivalry with the Kentucky Wildcats begins a new era. Louisville will also travel to PAC 10 power Arizona for a tournament in Tucson before hosting the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge with the Cardinals and the Cincinnati Bearcats squaring off against Illinois and Purdue. Other non-conference matchups will include Wright State, Tennessee and Lipscomb as well as the OVC Champion.
"It will be great to continue our matches with our intrastate rival Kentucky because it is such a great opportunity for our fans to travel for what should be a highly competitive match," said Yelin.
BIG EAST matches at home this year will feature Rutgers, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, DePaul, Cincinnati, Georgetown, South Florida and Villanova.
