Lola Arslanbekova had 14 kills, two aces and four blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-22, 25-20, 25-18 win at Rutgers in BIG EAST volleyball action Sunday afternoon.
U of L moves to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in the league as Rutgers falls to 8-13 and 1-6 in conference play. The Cardinals hit .381 as a team and outblocked RU 9-3. U of L recorded five aces led by Arslanbekova's two.
"If we can hit like that every match, we will be in good shape," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "I like this momentum we have going into next week's match with Cincinnati." In the first game, U of L had built a comfortable lead at 20-16 before the Scarlet Knights went on a 5-1 run and came back to tie at 21. The Cardinals kept their composure and scored four of the last five points for the win. Louisville hit .471 and had four blocks, led by Kimi Hohl's three.
In the second set, the Cardinals blew out to a 19-10 lead and then had to hold off a comeback by Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights got as close as four at 23-19 but two kills by Anastasia Artemeva gave the Cardinals the win. U of L hit .377 in that set, led by Lola Arslanbekova's nine kills.
In the third set, U of L had built a 16-8 lead and then held off a Rutgers charge that saw the Scarlet Knights come within three at 20-17 on three straight U of L hitting errors. But RU was able to score just once more as U of L won the set and match 25-18.
