Senior middle blocker Lecia Brown had eight kills, hit .800 with five blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 win over DePaul in BIG EAST volleyball action Friday night in Chicago.
The Cardinals improved to 10-7 with a 3-1 record in the league. DePaul falls to 6-12 and 0-4 in the BIG EAST. The Cardinals hit .384 as a team, out blocking the Blue Demons 6-1, both teams recording three aces. DePaul hit .226 and was led by Sarah Cullen's eight kills. For the Cardinals, Anastasia Artemeva had 10 kills on 16 attacks. Freshman Lola Arslanbekova had 11 kills and two aces in the three setter.
U of L built a 20-10 lead in the first set and never trailed although DePaul made a late surge to get within six points at 24-18, but it was too late as the Cardinals won the set on a serving error by the Blue Demons. DePaul stayed close early in the second set, trailing by just one at 8-7 but the Cardinals hit a scalding .632 in the set and pulled away to a 25-12 win. Louisville never trailed in the final set, hitting .333 for the 25-18 win.
The Cardinals travel to South Bend for a matchup Sunday at Notre Dame in a match that will be televised by ESPNU. The match time is set for 5 p.m.
