Lindsey Mango was named All Active Ankle

Carrie Gurnell had 16 kills to lead Purdue to a 25-19, 25-12, 25-23 win over the University of Louisville in the final match of the Active Ankle Challenge at Belin Court in West Lafayette, Ind. Saturday night.
U of L falls to 7-5 with the loss but had Justine Landi and Lindsey Mango named to the all tournament team. Purdue improves to 8-3. Despite outblocking the Boilermakers 8-4, U of L hit just .135 to Purdue's .340. No Cardinal had double digit kills but freshman Lola Arslanbekova led with eight kills. Lecia Brown had six blocks and four kills.
"It is disappointing to lose but I am looking at bright side because we found our lineup and we have to keep working as season progresses and they will get to play as a team better. As a coach's job is to stay patient," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach.
In the first set, U of L took a 4-2 lead early before Purdue ran off six straight points to take the lead at 8-4. U of L got to within one at 19-18 on a kill by Lola Arslanbekova but then Purdue went on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-19. The Cardinals were outhit .143 to .379. Gwen Rucker had two kills for the Cardinals.
The Boilers carried the momentum into the second set and used an 8-2 run to push to an 18-8 lead and finished off the Cards 25-12. Purdue outhit the Cardinals .500 to .120 and aced them twice. The Boilermakers were led by Carrie Gurnell's six kills. In the third set, U of L came back from a 7-2 deficit to come within one at 21-20 but fell 25-23.
U of L, which has had six matches in eight days, has just one match this coming week as BIG EAST play opens. The Cardinals will travel to Philadelphia to face Villanova next Sunday.
