Transfer Laura Blab had 15 kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 upset of No. 12-ranked Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Saturday night in Minneapolis.

"What a win. I am just so proud of how hard we played. I want to give credit to the bench, they were cheering and coaching each other from the sidelines for a unified effort. I am very proud of the way Katie George ran the team tonight. What an amazing coming out party for our two freshmen Tess Clark and Maggie DeJong as well as transfer Laura Blab."

The Cardinals, 1-1, hit .286 with four aces and 7.5 blocks. In all, four Cards hit in double digit kills with Maya McClendon and Tess Clark each notching 14 and Maggie DeJong adding 11. Clark and Janelle Jenkins had three blocks apiece. Katie George had a match-high 57 assists and added three aces and two blocks.

The Cards took a 10-6 lead early in the first set but the Gophers pushed back to tie at 15. UofL went on a 5-1 run before two aces by Katie George down the stretch took the Cards to set point. UM's Sarah Wilhite crushed one down the line to stave off the loss but U of L scored to win 25-21. The Cards notches four aces in the set.

The second set had 20 ties and 10 lead changes in a see-saw battle. The Cardinals led 15-10 at the media timeout but the Gophers tied at 17 and sparked a UofL timeout. The two teams traded points and UofL had set point at 24-23 but a missed serve tied it at 24. The Cards scored once more but the Gophers had the last two points for the 27-25 win to tie the set score at one apiece going into the break.

UofL hit .315 in the third, led by Laura Blab's five kills in another closely fought set. The biggest lead for either team was when the Gophers led 9-4 early. The Cardinal finally gained some breathing room with a 23-20 lead on two straight Tess Clark kills from the middle. But UM tied at 23, 24, and 25 before an ace and the set winner by Blab gave the Cards the 27-25 win.

In the fourth and deciding set, the teams tied 14 times although UofL did not lead until 16-15. UM retook the lead at 25-24 on a block but two straight Tess Clark kills from the middle gave UofL match point. Minnesota's Sarah Wilhite got her 25th kill of the match to hold off the Cardinals but a kill by Blab tipped the match to the Cardinals.
