LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville track and field athlete Rachel Gehret was named the BIG EAST Female Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

A senior, Gehret registered a pair of wins in the field events at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on April 22 in Louisville. She placed first in the long jump, registering a season-best leap of 6.18m/20-3.50. The mark ranks first in the conference and 37th nationally. The Altoona, Pa., native then won the high jump event, clearing 1.77m/5-9.75. Her current season best in the event is 1.78m/5-10, which ranks 23rd nationally. In addition to her field success, Gehret helped the women's 4x100m relay team take first after clocking a time of 45.68.

The Cardinals return to action this week, with part of the team heading to the prestigious Penn Relays. The event takes place in Philadelphia, Pa., the site of the 2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, and begins on Thursday, April 28.
