Track and Field Set for Texas Roadhouse Border Battle Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams will play host to the third annual Texas Roadhouse Border Battle on Saturday, April 14, at Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium. Events at the throws field are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Field events inside the track are scheduled to start at 1 p.m., with running events commencing at 2 p.m. Live results from the meet can be accessed through www.UofLsports.com. The dual-scored meet showcases team `Hoosier Land' - Notre Dame and Indiana - against team `Commonwealth' - Kentucky and Louisville. In the first meeting in 2010, the Commonwealth's men's and women's teams won. Last year, Hoosier Land registered wins on both sides. Admission is free. In the throwing events, Jenna Wargo opens the day for the Cardinals in the javelin. Currently, she ranks fifth nationally in the event after posting a mark of 52.04m/170-9 last week, which broke the 10-year-old school record. On the men's side, Sam Bombaugh and Brad Vivace will open in the hammer throw. Bombaugh is 33rd nationally in the event. After the women's hammer and men's shot put, Chinwe Okoro and Khadija Abdullah lead the women in the discus. Okoro is No. 3 in the country with a collegiate-best 55.90m/183-5, which ranks fourth in the school's annals, while Abdullah is seventh in the nation behind a heave of 54.75m/179-7. The first running event of the day, the women's 5,000m, will start at 2 p.m. Also at the time, the men's discus, women's shot put and women's high jump will be getting underway. The Cardinals have three athletes in the top 40 in the women's high jump: Michelle Theophille (No. 16), Megan Schubert (No. 36) and Maggie Gilbertson (No. 36). Later in the day, Calvin Arsenault is scheduled to race in the men's 110m hurdles at 3:20 p.m. Last week, in his first collegiate race in the event, he took third. Arsenault also is scheduled to run on the men's 4x400m relay team at the conclusion of the meet. Michael Edwards, who currently holds the No. 18 ranking in the high jump, will participate in the event with Taylor Caldwell at 3:30 p.m. Edwards cleared 2.15m/7-0.50 at the Tennessee Challenge. Following the men's 400m and men's and women's 100m races, four Cardinals, including Ahlivia Spencer, will line up to run the women's 800m. Her collegiate-best mark of 2:10.57, which she clocked last week, ranks No. 3 in the outdoor school record book. Arsenault and Jordon Frazier are scheduled to run the men's 400m hurdles following the women's section of the race. Frazier won the competition last year with a time of 53.42. The women's and men's 4x400m relays conclude the day tentatively at 5:10 and 5:15 p.m., respectively.
