LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
University of Louisville track and field's Chinwe Okoro was named the Women's BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.
A redshirt senior, Okoro captured her third victory of the season in the discus at the Tennessee Challenge with a throw of 55.90m/183-5. It was nearly 20 feet beyond her previous personal best, and the mark ranks first in the conference and third nationally. It is the fifth-best throw in school history. She took second in the shot put, with a heave of 15.94m/52-3.75. Her season-best shot put (16.03m/52-7.25) mark ranks 23rd nationally.
Louisville returns to action when it plays host to its third annual Texas Roadhouse Border Battle on Saturday, April 14, at Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium. The meet pits the `Commonwealth' - Louisville and Kentucky - against the `Hoosier Land' - Notre Dame and Indiana. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m., and the track events commence at 2 p.m.
