LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams will send eight student-athletes to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in a last-chance meet, the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier, on Saturday, March 3, at Rector Field House.
The meet provides an opportunity for the selected Cardinals to improve upon their respective season-bests and earn marks that would allow them to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships from March 9-10 in Nampa, Idaho.
Field events begin at 10 a.m., and live results can be accessed through www.flashresults.com.
Michelle Theophille and Maggie Gilbertson will be the first Louisville student-athletes in action, as they are slated to compete in the women's high jump. Theophille cleared a personal-best 1.79m/5-10.5 earlier this year, which ranks 28th nationally.
Michael Edwards will compete in the men's high jump competition at 3 p.m. His mark of 2.20m/7-2.50 ranked in the top 10 throughout the season, but currently stands at No. 19.
In the horizontal jumps, Wesley Smith (long jump), Charachesicia Lockhart (triple jump) and Malina Simmers (triple) are slated to compete in their respective events. Simmers ranks 38th in the triple jump, while Lockhart is 44th in the event.
In the throwing events, Khadija Abdullah and Amashi Kendall will participate in the shot put, with Kendall doubling in the weight throw. Abdullah has the 16th-best throw in the shot put, and Kendall has the 12th-farthest weight throw mark.
