BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | LIVE RESULTS
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Set for postseason competition, the University of Louisville track and field teams head north this weekend for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
The two-day event, which runs from Feb. 16-17, will be housed in the SPIRE Institute and live results will be available on www.LightningTiming.com. Free streaming video can be accessed through the BIG EAST’s championship central page.
Heading into the meet, the Cardinals boast 16 marks that rank in the top five in the BIG EAST. Michelle Kinsella (high jump), Khadija Abdullah (shot put), and Margret Harris (60m) all have the best mark in their respective events.
Louisville opens Saturday in the afternoon with consecutive sprints events. Calvin Arsenault, who has the fifth-fastest 60m hurdles time in the conference, is set to race in the event’s trials at 12:20 p.m. The women’s 60m is next on the schedule, and the Cardinals’ Margret Harris boasts the top time in the event this season.
The field events begin at 1:15 p.m., with the men’s weight throw. Sam Bombaugh and Brad Vivace, who each scored in the event last season, headline four qualifiers scheduled to throw in the competition. Later in the day, Louisville will send four throwers to compete in the women’s section of the event. Amashi Kendall won the 2012 title by more than four feet.
For the jumps group, action starts at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s long jump. Freshman
Brittany Owens currently ranks seventh in the event and is one of four competing in the event. At 2 p.m., Louisville is scheduled to have a pair of men compete in the pole vault and the final jumps event of the day is set for 3:30 p.m., with the men’s long jump.
The rest of the day is dominated by track events. Notably, Andrew Stewart will run men’s mile finals at 2:45 p.m. and Harris will take part in her second track event of the day, with the 200m trials at 3 p.m. Currently, she ranks second in the BIG EAST in the event. The meet concludes with four-straight distance events, the men’s and women’s 5,000m finals and the distance medley relay for both.
The second and final day of competition begins with the women’s triple jump and the men’s shot put, followed by Kinsella in the high jump at 11:45 a.m. Sandwiched around the women’s pole vault, should they advance, Arsenault will participate in the men’s 60m hurdles finals and Harris will run in the women’s 60m final.
Other events of note as the day winds down include the men’s high jump and 3,000m events and the men’s 4x400m relays.
