The University of Louisville women's track and field team was named an All-Academic Team by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for 2007 as the Cards ranked 17th overall in the nation with a 3.341 team GPA.

"There's a lot of emphasis on doing things the right way at the University of Louisville and I'm very proud of the success our athletes are having in the classroom and on the track," said Cards' head coach Ron Mann. "Our student-athletes continue to work very hard to improve in the classroom as well as in their competitive events and that hard work is evident with this type of team honor and with the results at each meet."

The Cards were one of three BIG EAST schools to rank in the top 22 in nation in team GPA in 2007 as Syracuse ranked just ahead of the Cards in 16th at 3.350, while West Virginia was 22nd overall at 3.320. Arkansas-Little Rock led the nation in team GPA in 2007 at 3.610.

Academically, the Cards were led in 2007 by senior thrower Emily Turland, who was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team. Turland, a native of New Albany, Ind., had a 3.77 GPA while majoring in Accountancy and Equine Business to become the first U of L women's track and field athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since Trish Young was named First Team Academic All-America in 2002.

Competitively, the Cards also had a strong season in 2007 earning a runner-up team finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in May, the program's best ever finish at a conference meet. Overall, the Cardinal women won a school record four event titles and 10 medals at the BIG EAST Championships. The Cards also had a school record nine women compete at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
