SOUTH BEND, Ind. - University of Louisville senior Jacey Hughes set a new school record in the pole vault and reached the NCAA provisional mark while winning her third event title of 2005 at Saturday's Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Ind.

The meet, which included teams from Conference USA, the Big East, the Big Ten, the Big 12 and the ACC, was not a scored event.

Hughes, a native of Utica, Ky., broke her own school record with a mark of 12 feet, 11.5 inches to best a field of 26 pole-vaulters and improve to a perfect 3-0 in the event during the indoor season. The reigning C-USA outdoor pole vault champion also has wins this season at the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by Kentucky and the Purdue Invitational.

U of L also set a new school record in the 400-meter dash as sophomore Kelly Ennis' time of 56.59 seconds shattered the previous record of 58.07 which she had set at last week's Ohio State Invitational. The native of Leonardtown, Md., finished 13th overall in the field of 35 runners.

The Cardinals set a third school record in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:55.55 breaking the old mark of 3:58.38 which dated back to Feb. 27, 2000.

"We had two excellent performances by Jacey Hughes and Kelly Ennis and a much improved showing by our 4x400 relay team," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "It was a good day overall for us and a very good competition. We were able to see what several of the Conference USA teams had this season and we also had a chance to see a couple of the Big East teams. I feel pretty good about the way we're building and I'm seeing some very positive signs."

The Cardinals will next compete at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Feb. 18 in Bloomington, Ind., in their final event before the C-USA Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26 in Houston, Texas.
