The University of Louisville has signed Valentina Schneider to a national letter of intent to continue her career for the Cardinal women's tennis team according to U of L head coach Mark Beckham.

Schneider comes to Louisville from Mannheim, Germany where she attended high school at Kurpfalz Gymnasium Mannheim and is ranked in the Top 200 German Women's ranking and stands at No. 7 in Germany's Under -16's rankings.

"I am very excited about Valentina's future impact on the team, she will come in and help right away in the singles line up," said Beckham. "You want to have as much versatility as you can on a team to be able to match up with any of the teams you play against. Valentina brings a slightly different style of game to the team. She has a little bit more spin to her game and she is able to run down a lot of balls and we don't really have anybody that plays like that on the team right now. She will make it harder for teams to prepare for us because her style is different than everyone else's on the team.

The Cardinals lost three seniors to graduation, Amelia Harris, Sarah Miller and Gabrielle Duncan and tied for third in the BIG EAST Championship.

"We have a great foundation right now with the players we have returning and then when you add Valentina to that group, we should continue to build on the success we had this season," said Beckham. "We have not had a lot of German players here in the past but anytime you get someone who is top ten in Germany in their age group and top 200 in women's rankings in Germany, you are getting a player that will help your team right away. There are a lot of German players playing college tennis that are helping their team win a lot of matches and Valentina is definitely going to do that for us."
