Women's Tennis Set to Face Wisconsin and Dartmouth

The Cardinal women's tennis team will travel to Madison, Wisc. to face the host Badgers on Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 pm and Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. in Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Louisville is coming off a three-game homestand, which saw the Cards go 3-0. Last Thursday, they swept Morehead State 7-0, beat Evansville on Saturday 6-1, and entered conference play with another 7-0 sweep of Cincinnati on Sunday. Against Cincinnati, U of L's Elle Stokes and Becky Bodine had the first win in doubles, prevailing 8-3 over Sierra Sullivan and Katya Bure at No. 3. Rebecca Shine and Manuela Velasquez clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win over Kelly Poggensee-Wei and Caitlin O'Gara.

Elle Stokes scored the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Laura Bellinger at No. 5. Rebecca Shine gave U of L a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Caitlin O'Gara at No. 2. Manuela Velasquez clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Katya Bure at No. 4. Elle Stokes, Becky Bodine and Julia Fellerhoff added the final three points for the sweep.

The Badgers defeated UW-Milwaukee 6-1 on Feb. 9 at home. Wisconsin won all three doubles matches and won all but one of the singles matches. They are now 3-0 on the spring season after taking down Marquette and Northern Illinois, both by a 5-2 final score.

 

 

Dartmouth is coming off of the ECAC Tournament last Friday and Saturday hosted by Columbia in New York, N.Y. On the first day, the Big Green fell to Princeton 2-4. They won the doubles point, but managed only one singles victory. Dartmouth earned a victory on the second day by defeating Cornell 5-2. The Big Red got the doubles point, but the Big Green won all but one singles match. Dartmouth is 1-1 with a 4-3 win over Boston University and a 2-5 loss to Boston College.
