Fellerhoff and Shine face a pair from UGa tomorrow morning.
Nov. 8, 2013
The University of Louisville doubles pair of Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine won again and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean National King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The Louisville pair made quick work of Sarah Lee and Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan, winning 8-1.
"Becca and Julia played really well today. The thing that is encouraging is they are playing better each match they play," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. " It is very similar to what they did at regionals. They never let Michigan get comfortable and were able to control the match. That is not easy to do because this Michigan team was hot as well. It just shows the level that Becca and Julia are playing at right now. They have got another win under their belts. "
Fellerhoff and Shine will face Lauren Herring and Maho Kowase of Georgia at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serve as the culmination of the fall college tennis season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are the men's and women's champions from each of the 12 Division I USTA/ITA Regional Championship held across the country in October with Fellerhoff and Shine representing the Ohio Valley Regional
The doubles field features 15 different schools in the field of 20 teams, highlighted by two-time defending USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships doubles winners Kaitlyn Christian and Santamaria of USC. The second-seeded duo was also No. 1 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, but with Santamaria's injury forcing them out of the All-Americans, they've only competed in the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional.
