The University of Louisville women's tennis team had a strong showing at the Miami Invitational. Over the two-day, round-robin-style tournament, Cardinal players faced off against individuals from Bowling Green, Miami and Xavier. In all, the Cards went 12-6 in singles matches and 7-2 doubles matches throughout the weekend at the Hepburn Courts in Oxford, Ohio.

"We had a very good weekend, I was impressed with the freshmen class as a whole. The nerves were of the charts but they were still able to compete and get wins against players that have a lot of experience. So for us to win the majority of our matches, it's very encouraging. We had a good team last year but I think we are going to be noticeably better this year," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. "I want to mention freshman Chloe Willetts, who was undefeated in her first weekend of college tennis. I also have to mention Rebecca Shine, she played some of the best tennis I've ever seen her play and she also showed great leadership this weekend!"

Senior Rebecca Shine went 3-0 in singles and won 30 games in a row. She first beat Bowling Green's Emily Reuland 6-3, 6-0 which started her streak as she then downed Miami's Alix Thurman 6-0, 6-0 and then Xavier's Alex Brinker 6-0, 6-0. Paired with newcomer Chloe Willetts, Shine beat Bowling Green State's Emily Reuland and Harley Hutchinson 8-5 and Miami's Andreea Badileanu and Ana Rajkovic 8-7 (7-4). Shine also paired with Cassie Pough against Xavier but fell 8-5.

In singles, Willetts beat BGSU's Harley Hutchison 2-6, 6-0, 6-3, Miami's Ramona Costa 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and Xavier's Cristina Di Lorenzo 6-4, 6-3.
