Day One of Muirfield Invitational In the Books for Women's Tennis

Julia Fellerhoff and Becca Shine, the University of Louisville's nationally ranked doubles pair, advanced after the first day of play at the Ohio State Muirfield Invitational at the Country Club at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.

#60 Fellerhoff and Shine combined forces to beat Eastern Michigan's Mariya Toncheva and Daphne Friedrichs 8-3. The Cardinal pair is the top seed of the doubles draw.

In singles action, both women advanced in the bracket, with No. 2 seeded Julia Fellerhoff being Maureen Stevens of Dayton 6-2, 6-1. Becca Shine, the No. 7 seed outlasted Miriam Westerink of Eastern Michigan 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (7) to advance as well.

The tournament setup consists of a 16-team main draw doubles and 32-player singles draw. The first two days will each have 16 singles and eight doubles matches played, including consolation. Sunday is another full doubles day, but only singles semis and finals.

Play resumes Saturday morning.
