Olympian Danielle Lawrie will Headline 2013 Louisville Softball Bullpen Club Dinner

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Olympian Danielle Lawrie will be the keynote speaker at the 2013 Class Act Federal Credit Union Bullpen Club Dinner. The annual dinner will be held in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saturday January 26 at 7:30 p.m.

"Every year we strive to bring in players at the highest level of our sport and Danielle Lawrie certainly fits that description," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "She was an outstanding player on the collegiate level and with the Canadian national team and has continued her career in the professional league. Her experiences on each of those levels will be beneficial not only for our team, but also for any athlete."

About Danielle Lawrie: Danielle Lawrie was a pitcher a clean-up hitter for the University of Washington and was named Women's College World Series Most Outstanding Player and pitched every inning during the Huskies' 2009 national championship run. The 2009 ESPY Award nominee also led Washington to a return WCWS appearance in 2010. Lawrie was a two-time Honda Award Winner (2009 and 2010) and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2009. During her collegiate career, the three-time All-American struck out 1,860 batters in 1,189 innings, threw eight no-hitters.

The Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada native was also a member of the Canada women's national softball team during the 2008 Beijing Olympics and led Canada to a 9-2 victory over the Netherlands. In 2009, Lawrie helped lead Team Canada to a Bronze Medal in the World Cup and a Silver Medal in the Canada Cup. She was named Most Valuable Pitcher at the2006 World Cup in which Canada earned a Silver Medal.

In in 2010, Lawrie joined USSSA Florida Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league and helped her team to the league title as a rookie. She signed a contract to also pitch with the Toyota Shokki team in Japan in 2012.

About Louisville Softball: U of L is coming off of a program-best 2012 season in which the Cards posted a 55-5 overall record, won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles and made their ninth straight NCAA regional appearance. The Cardinals finished the season at No .17 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings and No. 18 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball coaches' poll, but spent five weeks in the top 10 of both polls, reaching as high as Nos. 9 and 7 respectively. Louisville returns seven starters and 12 letterwinners including All-American Taner Fowler and fellow all-conference selections Alicja Wolny, Katie Keller, Whitney Arion, Caralisa Connell, Jennifer Esteban and Jordan Trimble.

 

 

The Louisville Softball program has earned nine consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, three Big East Championships, and has been consistent ranked among the nation's top 25.

The Cardinals will open the 2013 season at the UNLV Sportco Kickoff Classic Feb. 8-10.

The Bullpen Club dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency. A reception and silent auction start at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $50/individual or $500/$750 for a table of 10.
