The University of Louisville softball team will hold a Holiday Clinic on January 18, 2009 at Trager Fieldhouse. This clinic will feature instruction in both offense and defense for players ages 8-18. All levels of experience are welcome to attend.
The Louisville Cardinals are coming off a their 5th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament - 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008- and have won two of the past three Big East Championships.
In addition to U of L players and coaches, the clinic will also feature:
Cooper has been involved in competitive softball for 30 + years, including 12 years in the USA. Cooper, formerly from New Zealand , was an ASA All American pitcher and was an advisor to the Canadian National program where he developed various pitching programs. Cooper has coached the St Louis Chaos ASA travel team earning two runner-up finishes in 16U. Cooper has done clinics at other universities including Washington, Northwestern, Missouri, Illinois-Chicago, UNLV, South Florida and Saint Louis.
May-Johnson is currently a Volunteer Assistant with Louisville Softball. She was a four year letter winner at the University of Iowa, 2003 Freshman of the year, three time All Conference selection, and 2005 Academic All-American. She is a three year veteran of the National Professional Fastpitch League. May-Johnson was a 2006 All Star and NPF Nokona Rookie of the year. In 2008 she was named an All Star and League MVP as a member of the 2008 NPF champion Chicago Bandits Team.
Wood, a Louisville native (Butler HS) became the first softball All American in Louisville history in 2006. As a senior she led the team with a 382 batting average, nine home runs, 15 doubles and 51 RBI's. Wood was three time First Team All Conference selection and was named to the NFCA First Team All South Region 2006. Wood currently plays professional softball in Italy.
