Becker Earns NFCA All-Central Region Honors

May 15, 2014

The University of Louisville's Maryssa Becker was named to the 2014 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Central Region second team as a pitcher/utility player.

Becker (Medford, Ore.) becomes the first Louisville freshman to earn all-region honors since Keola Calderon was named to the South Region second team in 2000, the program's inaugural season. Becker was also a 2014 American Athletic All-Conference second team selection after splitting time between pitcher and first base. She leads the Cardinals' pitching staff with a 2.08 ERA, and 137 strikeouts in 138.0 innings pitched and leads the conference with four saves. She also carries a .312 batting average with 25 RBIs and 22 runs. The two-time American Pitcher of the Week was named one of 25 finalists for the 2014 NFCA Freshman of the Year.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams which will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
