Alicja Wolny, Kristen Wadwell swept BIG EAST Player of the Week honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Louisville swept the weekly BIG EAST Conference softball honors as senior Kristen Wadwell was named Pitcher of the Week and freshman Alicja Wolny was tabbed Player of the Week on March 22. Wadwell was responsible for every UofL victory this week while freshman slugger Alicia Wolny led the squad with a team-high nine RBI.
Wadwell posted a 4-1 record and a 1.31 ERA on the weekend including a complete game, nine-strikeout victory over No. 15/15 Texas. The senior allowed just five earned runs and struck out 24 batters over 26.2 innings in her six appearances. She scattered 16 hits and held opponents to a .178 batting average. Wadwell hurled a complete game shutout against Purdue and posted wins over Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton at the Judy Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
Wolny had a hit in every game this weekend and had three RBI in two games for Louisville. The rookie first baseman went 7-for-18 (.389) at the plate and scored four runs. She also tallied a double and a home run to post a .667 slugging percentage and .522 on-base mark. Her RBI double against Texas proved to the game winner in Louisville's final game of the Judy Garman Classic.
The No. 23/24 Cardinals (19-10) will travel to Indiana for a midweek game Wednesday at 4 p.m.
