KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - Katie Keller hit a two-run homer in the first while Chelsea Leonard and Tori Collins combined on a shutout as the No. 17/19 University of Louisville softball team improved to 15-0 on the season with a 2-0 win over Boston (5-4) Sunday in the Tennessee Classic.
"This team continues to improve every weekend," said Sandy Pearsall. "Our pitchers have been getting the job done and our offense has been solid. We just need to stay focused and continue to improve as the season goes on."
The Cardinals got all the scoring they needed in the bottom of the first when senior Kristin Austin was safe on a one-out infield single and sophomore Katie Keller follows with her third home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall.
The Terriers had a runner in scoring position only once in the game when Emily Roesch and Melanie Delgado each singled to put runners on first and second in the fifth. Collins entered the game and dealt two strikeouts to end the inning. She went on to retire the next six batters to ensure the shutout.
Leonard (4-0) got the win, allowing four hits and striking out six in 4.1 innings. Collins struck out three en route to her first save of the season. Trimble was 2 for 3 with a triple. Austin was 2 for 4 with a run and Jennifer Esteban extended her hitting streak to 13 games with a 2 for 4 performance at the plate.
Holli Floetker (5-2) took the loss for the Terriers, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 1.0 innings of work.
