PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 2012 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship field has been set and Louisville will open the event on the road against USF in a quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m., ET at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
The Cardinals (10-4-3, 5-3-3 BIG EAST) earned the No. 3 seed from the National Division after closing the regular season with a 2-1 win over Cincinnati on Friday night. The Bulls (10-5-2, 6-2-2 BIG EAST) enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed from the American Division despite suffering a 4-0 loss at 15th-ranked Marquette in their regular season finale on Saturday. Louisville and USF met earlier this season on Sept. 30 in Tampa where they played to a 1-1 draw.
The BIG EAST Championship will begin on Thursday with a pair of first round matchups featuring DePaul against Villanova in Philadelphia and Rutgers versus Connecticut in Storrs. The winner of the DePaul-Villanova matchup will advance to a quarterfinal game at National Division champion Georgetown on Sunday, while the winner of the Rutgers-Connecticut game will earn a quarterfinal matchup at American Division champion Marquette on Sunday. The fourth and final quarterfinal matchup of the BIG EAST Championship will be Syracuse at Notre Dame on Sunday.
The 2012 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship will culminate in Storrs, Conn., as host Connecticut will serve as the site for the semifinals and title game of the tournament. The semifinals are set for Nov. 2 at 4 p.m., and 6:30 p.m., ET. Both will be carried nationally on the CBS Sports Network. The title game is set for Nov. 4 at noon and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network, as well as numerous regional sports networks, including SNY. The game also will be streamed live online for free at www.bigeast.tv.
