LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A crew of former University of Louisville rowers earned an impressive second-place finish in the Alumni Eights event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta last Saturday in Boston.

The Louisville alumnae boat, which was entered in the event as the "Old Birds", included coxswain Jenna Sample (class of 2006 at U of L), Brooke Spence (2005), Beth Daunhauer (2007), Allison Pelette (2009), Nicole Alderson (2007), Lisa Terreberry (2006), Breanne O'Connor (2008), Kristin Bloom (2008) and Kathryn Hagglund (2008). The crew covered the course in a time of 17 minutes, 48.967 seconds to trail only Virginia at 17:18.152. The Boola Boola Boat Club was third at 17:53.821, followed by Stanford (18:31.735) and Dartmouth (18:44.975).

"It is a great thing for Louisville Rowing to have our alums out there competing and representing the university and our team so successfully on the national stage," said Cards' assistant coach Andrea Buch. "This is one of the premiere events in the rowing world, and the alumni event offers the unique opportunity to put on the Cardinal uniform one more time. Their outstanding performance is a testament to the passion, talent, and pride they brought and continue to bring to Louisville Rowing."

The University of Louisville rowing program will next host the annual Red-Black Day at the Cardinal Boathouse on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. The event will begin with introductions of the Cardinal rowers and coaches. The boats will launch at approximately 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by the racing, which should be completed by approximately 11:40 a.m. The cookout is set to follow the racing at noon.
