Buch Named South Region Assistant Coach of the Year to Lead List of Cardinals' CRCA Honorees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced its regional and academic award winners on Tuesday and the University of Louisville rowing team was well represented.

Third-year Louisville assistant coach Andrea Buch, who also serves as the head coach of the Cardinals' novice program, led the individual honors as the South Region Assistant Coach of the Year, the first such honor for her. All regional award winners are eligible to win the National Assistant Coach of the Year, which will be voted on in June.

On the water, Louisville rowers Erin Bennett and Lauren Mensch earned CRCA All-South Region honors on Tuesday. Bennett, a freshman from Old Lyme, Conn., earned First Team All-South Region accolades marking the sixth straight season the Cardinals have had a rower named First Team All-Region, while Mensch, a junior from Elizabethtown, Ky., was named Second Team All-South Region. Both Bennett and Mensch finished the 2010 season in the Cardinals' varsity eight boat.

In the classroom, Louisville seniors Katie Rorer (Paducah, Ky.) and Samantha Seldon (Louisville, Ky.) and juniors Sam Kayser (Ottawa, Ont.), Mensch and Anastasia Prokopenko (Pskov, Russia) were named CRCA Scholar Athletes on Tuesday. It marked the third straight year Seldon has earned the honor and the second time for Kayser, Mensch and Prokopenko. To be eligible, student-athletes had to be in at least their second year of eligibility, rowed in a minimum of 75 percent of spring races and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher for her career.
