Cardinals' 2V8+ Chosen as American Boat of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a successful weekend at the Clemson Invite, Louisville's second varsity eight was chosen as the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week on Wednesday.

The Cardinals claimed their third boat of the week award through five weeks of the 2014 season, with the winning boat each time being second varsity eight. The crew consisted of coxswain Sophie St. Martin, Elise Valantine, Lucy Wilshier, Lizzie DeVries, Cynthia Doyle, Kylen Pattermann, Hanna Spittel, Abbie Wade and Katie Nord. The team finished ahead of crews from No. 13 UCLA, No. 15 Wisconsin, and No. 16 Cornell in winning three races on the weekend on Lake Hartwell. Facing six other squads in all three races, Louisville recorded a best time of 7:04.4 on the weekend.

Up next, the Cardinals will have a series of races in Ann Arbor, Mich., on May 3. Louisville is scheduled to compete against the host Wolverines as well as No. 3 ranked Ohio State.
