2011 Head of the Charles Championship Eight Results 
BOSTON - The University of Louisville rowing team finished 26th overall in the championship eight event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals covered the three-mile course along the Charles River in a time of 17 minutes, 25.33 seconds. Virginia took the win in the 37-crew event with a time of 16:11.52, while the Radcliffe crew from Harvard was second at 16:19.63. Michigan took third with a time of 16:22.01 and was followed by Yale (16:24.04) and Wisconsin (16:28.31).
Louisville's varsity eight crew at the regatta consisted of coxswain Ellen Fawcett, Morgan Dunham, Katya Monchenko, Kelly O'Conor, Amy Van Syoc, Lizzie DeVries, Hannah Ritter, Marissa Thalen and Kathleen O'Connell. It marked the Cardinals' first appearance at the Head of the Charles since 2008 when they earned a 16th-place finish in the women's championship eight event.
The Head of the Charles Regatta, the world's largest two-day rowing event, consists of more than 8,000 athletes from around the world competing in 55 different race events. Originally a one-day event, the regatta grew to a two-day event in 1997 and now attracts up to 300,000 spectators during the October weekend.
Up next, Louisville will close the fall racing schedule on Nov. 5-6 at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn.
