Matthew Galas is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Louisville rowing program.

Galas coached the Vanderbilt University men and women from 1998-2000, where he oversaw conditioning, practice schedules and regatta organization.

Prior to coaching at Vanderbilt, Galas rowed three years for the Commodores, competing in both the lightweight and heavyweight divisions. He led the team to medals at the Head of the Chattahoochee and SIRA Championships and also helped Vandy to the finals in the Lightweight 4 at the Dad Vail Regatta. In 1999, Galas qualified for the Riverside Lightweight National Team Developmental Camp, but was unable to attend due to surgery.

A native of Milford, Mass., Galas earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Vandy in 2000 with a double major in mathematics and economics. He is pursuing an Associateship in the Society of Actuaries.
