Introducing Women's Lacrosse's Brittany Read

Dec. 19, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team was looking to bolster its goalkeeper position in the 2014 signing class. Fortunately, the Cardinals' staff inked decorated New Jersey native Brittany Read.

"Brittany is incredibly poised as a goalie, with a great eye, solid instincts and quick hands," head coach Kellie Young said. "And the best news is that she has only gotten better since committing to Louisville. She is emotionally steady and incredibly focused and will protect our cage with a calm determination."

Hailing from Gibbsboro, N.J., Read has played three years as varsity goalkeeper for Eastern Regional High under coaches Lauren Regan and Katie Lee.

Read, who began her prep career in 2011, earned second team all-conference honors and was named to the national tournament team in both 2012 and 2013. This past season, she was selected to the second team all-South Jersey.

"Just the feeling I got when I got to the campus made me feel at home," Read said. "The players were very welcoming and that showed me a lot about the team as a whole and the coaching staff was amazing."

Currently, Read plays club lacrosse for South Jersey Select.

One of five children, she is the daughter of Denise and Don Read.
