LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
University of Louisville women's lacrosse's Nikki Boltja earned all-BIG EAST second team honors after a stellar offensive season, conference officials announced late Tuesday night from the postseason banquet in Syracuse, N.Y.
A sophomore, Boltja finished the year with a team-best in goals (53) and points (55). On the national scale, she ranked fourth in goals per game (3.53), 16th in goals and 48th in points per game (3.67). Her goal total ranks sixth all-time on the school's single-season performance list. Louisville's catalyst on offense, Boltja netted a hat trick on 10 different occasions, and registered a career-best seven goals against Longwood on Feb. 24, tying the second best single-game performance in school history. Currently, she leads the conference in goals per game and free-position goals per game (1.00).
Earlier this season, the Medina, Ohio, native was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 27 after a strong performance against Longwood and Old Dominion, where she combined to tally 12 goals, going 3-of-4 on free-position attempts.
"I'm incredibly proud of her to achieve this as a sophomore," head coach Kellie Young said. "Despite drawing attention from every team we played, she still managed to lead the BIG EAST in scoring and that's remarkable.
"This is a great starting point for her and it shows what we can expect in the next two years from her."
The major award winners consisted of Syracuse's Michelle Tumolo (BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year) and Gary Gait (BIG EAST Coach of the Year) and Loyola's Kellye Gallagher (BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year) and Marlee Paton (BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year).
