LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Nikki Boltja is the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Boltja, the conference's first honoree this season, combined for eight goals and two assists after Louisville's first two games of the season. The Medina, Ohio, native, who is tied for first in the conference in goals per game, scored five against then-No. 6 Duke. She followed that performance with a hat trick in the Cardinals' home opener against Detroit, the 16th time over the last two seasons she has scored at least three goals in a game.
The unanimous preseason all-BIG EAST selection put 16 of her 18 shots on goal for an 88.9 percent shooting accuracy. Boltja also collected two ground balls and forced one turnover in a 1-1 week.
Kaylin Morissette was named to the five-member honor roll after posting a two-game total of 16 draw controls, two ground balls, and one caused turnover. Against Detroit, she had career bests of six goals and nine draw controls, which is tied for the second most draw controls in a game in school history.
Louisville returns to action this week with its first of two road games, playing at Old Dominion on Friday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. The Cardinals then play Sunday at William & Mary at 1 p.m.
