Three Cardinals Earnl All-BIG EAST Honors in Women's Golf

Louisville, Ky. - Three Louisville women's golfers were named All-BIG EAST selections by the league's eight head coaches. Senior Anna-Karin Ljungstrom earned the honor for the third straight year while freshmen Emily Haas and Katie Petrino earned their first league honors. Haas was one of six unanimous selections. Ljungstrom finishes her final season at Louisville with a 76.2 stroke average. She finished the year ranked second on the team in stroke average. She finished the fall with a 74.5 average and missed the last two tournaments of the spring season after having wrist surgery. She finished the year with one Top 10 Finish. Haas finished her freshman year leading the team with a 75.7 stroke average. She had two Top 10 Finishes, which includes tying for first place in the BIG EAST Championship. She shot a collegiate low 69 in the Las Vegas Collegiate. She also finished tied for 10th in the Cards Sir Pizza Challenge with a score of 222. Haas also registered a Top 20 finish, tying for 12th in the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup. Petrino, a redshirt freshman, finished the year ranked third on the team with a 77.0 stroke average. She finished the year with two Top 10 Finishes. Petrino's best finish with fourth in the BIG EAST Championship with a score of 225. She also finished tied for fifth with a score of 230 in the Ram Ptarmigan Classic in the fall. She shot her collegiate low round of 71 in the final round at the BIG EAST Championship. USF sophomore Christina Miller was unanimously chosen by the league's eight head coaches as the 2012 BIG EAST Women's Golf Player of the Year. Notre Dame's Ashley Armstrong was also announced as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and USF head coach Marci Kornegay as BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
