Women's Golf Stands 10th After First Round in the NCAA East Regional

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The University of Louisville women's golf team shot a 301 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional on Thursday afternoon at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Cardinals currently stand in 10th place after the first round was completed. Coastal Carolina leads the field after shooting a 286 in the first round. Third ranked Alabama is second with a score of 287 and California is third with a score of 290.

Senior Sara-Maude Juneau led the team after shooting a 72 in the first round to finish the day tied at 11th. Juneau played a solid 18 holes, finishing with a birdie on the third hole and a bogey on the fifth hole while shooting par the rest of the way. Coastal Carolina's Jessica Alexander and Florida State's Jessica Negron shot a 69 on the day to lead the field.

Sophomore Anna-Karin Ljungstrom shot a 75 in the first round and is currently tied at 39th. Ljungstrom made the turn at even par, with two birdies and two bogeys. She stayed even until the 13th and 14th hole where she went double bogey, bogey. The sophomore recovered well shooting par on the final four holes. Junior Maria Castellanos shot a 76 in the first round and is currently tied at 56th. Castellanos made the turn at three over par with three bogeys. The back nine was her best of the day, finishing the last nine holes with two birdies and three bogeys for one over.

Senior Laura Anderson shot a 78 on the day and is currently tied at 85th. Anderson played solid all day but she lost three strokes on the fourth hole where she shot a triple bogey. She made the turn at four over. She finished the back nine with just two bogeys on holes 13 and 14.

Freshman Tara Lyons shot a 79 in the first round and is currently tied at 92nd. Lyons made the turn at two over par, finishing with one birdie and three bogeys. She got off to a rough start on the back nine with three straight bogeys she shot par on the 13th hole but the 14th hole tripped her up with a triple bogey. She kept her poise and went birdie, par, par, par to finish out the day.

 

 

The top eight teams of each region will advance to the NCAA Championship on May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
