The University of Louisville women's golf team shot a 308 in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals are currently in third place, just one stroke behind second place Georgetown. Notre Dame leads the field with a score of 295. South Florida is fourth with a score of 310 and Rutgers is fifth with a score of 312.
Senior Sara-Maude Juneau led the Cardinals after shooting a 75 in the first round and is currently tied at sixth. Juneau had three birdies on the front nine and made the turn at three under par. She lost strokes on the back nine with two bogeys and two double bogeys to finish three over. Becca Huffer of Notre Dame leads the field after finishing the day at even par (72).
Sophomore Anna-Karin Ljungstrom shot a 76 in the first round and is currently tied at 10th. Ljungstrom mad the turn at two over par. She finished the back nine with two birdies, a bogey and one double bogey for four over par on the day. Senior Laura Anderson shot a 77 in the first round and is currently tied at 12th. Anderson made the turn at even par after one birdie and one bogey. She struggled on holes 12, 14, and 15 going bogey, bogey, double bogey, finishing at five over.
Freshman Tara Lyons shot an 80 in the first round and is currently tied at 19th. Lyons finished the front nine at four over par. She finished with a birdie on the 11th hole but shot double bogey on holes 10 and 12. She shot par on the last four holes to finish at eight over on the day. Junior Maria Castellanos shot an 82 in the first round and is currently tied at 28th. Castellanos made the turn at four over par. She really struggled on the back nine with three double bogeys, one bogey and one bird to finish at 10 over on the day.
The Cardinals will begin second round play tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 9:40 on the first hole.
