The University of Louisville field hockey players Erin Conrad, Dominique Pasqualichio and Alyssa Voelmle were named to the BIG EAST Conference preseason team while the Cardinals were picked to finish third in the 2012 BIG EAST Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll. Reigning regular season champion Connecticut was tabbed the preseason favorite followed by 2011 tournament champion Syracuse.
Louisville completes the top three of the Preseason Coaches' Poll for the second consecutive year, receiving one first-place vote and 27 points total. The Cardinals reached the 2011 BIG EAST Championship Semifinal after a 3-3 conference record, going 10-9 overall. Louisville will return seven starters and welcome eight newcomers as the Cards look to replace the offense generated by 2011 All-BIG EAST First Team selection Hayley Turner.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Conrad (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) is making her second straight appearance on the league preseason team. The team co-captain is a two-time All-BIG EAST selection.
Dominique Pasqualichio (Plymouth, Pa.) was a unanimous selected to the preseason team. The sophomore defender started every game last season en route earning All-BIG EAST second team honors.
Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Voelmle (Hershey,Pa.) started every game and was selected to the All-BIG EAST second team and all-tournament teams.
The Cardinals will hold a preseason scrimmage against Indiana on Friday, Aug. 17 at noon at Trager Stadium.
