LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville head coach Justine Sowry announced that Gianna Perrone has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Cardinals starting in the fall of 2013. She is one of six newcomers expected to join the U of L field hockey program, with the other signees to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
"I am so excited and proud of our 2013 incoming class," said Sowry. "Our hard work, in addition to the direction of the program and the culture we have developed, has paid off with a class that has tremendous depth, talent and versatility. All of our future Cardinals are strong, intelligent and well-rounded young women. They each come from powerful and successful club or high school programs so they know how to win and expect to win. Their individual attributes combined with the passion, drive and the competitive desire will significantly boost the strength of our team, as we transition into the best field hockey conference in the nation, the ACC, with the ultimate goal of winning championships."

Justine Sowry on Gianna Perrone
"We are ecstatic that Gianna has chosen Louisville to be her home away from home for the next four years. Gianna not only brings a competitive and winning attitude but is also a poised, composed and resolute defender. Her leadership and solid distribution skills will add to the success and depth of our backfield play. She has an exceptional background with USA underage experience as well as impressive club and high school involvement.
We are thrilled to have multiple players from Eastern High School and Spirit USA club. The winning mentality and the competitive nature of their programs are something we will benefit from in years to come and could be the difference in Louisville becoming the Championship team that we strive toward."
