Louisville, Ky. - Louisville head coach Jeff Walz announced that Rockcastle County forward Sara Hammond has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the University of Louisville next season. Hammond is ranked as the 12th best player in the nation by Hoop Gurlz.

"We are elated to have solidified our front court with the addition of in state forward, Sara Hammond," said Walz. "To have beaten out some of the best programs in the country and to keep her at home speaks volumes for our program and its future. Sara brings a high caliber of talent and tenacious work ethic in all that she does. She blossomed this past summer in the national spotlight and thrives in a competitive atmosphere. Sara will be a matchup problem for most teams with her ability to withstand physical play as well as her capability of knocking down shots on the perimeter. She is a wonderfully gifted student and will be very visible addition to our community."

The 6-foot-2 Hammond is considered one of the top players in the Bluegrass State and is a leading contender for Miss Basketball this season. Last season she averaged 15 points, 10.8 rebounds and had 120 blocked shots as a junior. She finished the year shooting 59 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line last season. She was named a Courier Journal First Team All-State selection her junior year.

Hammond helped Rockcastle County to the 12th Region title before losing to Scott County in the Sweet 16 semifinals her junior year. Hammond has led Rockcastle County to three regional titles. She recorded a quadruple double her junior year, amassing 18 points, 17 rebounds, 12 blocks and 10 steals in a victory over Pulaski County.

As a sophomore, Hammond averaged 10.5 points and 8.2 rebounds a game.
