LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
Marquette held off a second-half Louisville rally to defeat the Cardinals 60-49 in women's Conference USA basketball action Sunday afternoon at Freedom Hall.
Trailing by 16 points early in the second half, the Cardinals went on a 17-5 run to pull within four at 44-40 with 8:54 left in the game. Jill Morton scored 13 points during the run, including three 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough as Marquette hung on for the victory.
Morton finished with a game-high 22 points to lead Louisville, while Shanta Bowens added eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Cardinals (14-10, 7-6 C-USA) travel to Tampa to take on South Florida at 7 p.m. Thursday night before returning home to face Houston on Saturday in the final regular-season home game.
