Morton, Knight Lead Cardinals To 78-61 Win At UNC Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Senior All-America candidate Jill Morton tied a career-high with 26 points and Jenny Knight dished out a career-high 14 assists to lead Louisville to a 78-61 victory over UNC Charlotte Saturday afternoon in Halton Arena. The win was the Cardinals' 12th in a row over the 49ers.

With Louisville leading 50-34 early in the second half, UNC Charlotte battled back to take the lead, 52-50, on a Jameka Jones three-pointer with 12:27 remaining. The Cardinals retook the lead seconds later, however, when Morton hit her first of three three-pointers in a 14-2 Louisville run. UNCC's Jennifer Smith hit a pair of free throws with 5:45 to go to pull the 49ers within seven, but the Cardinals followed with a 10-0 run to seal the victory.

Morton finished 6-of-8 from three-point land, tying another career-high for treys made in a game. Kara Kessans and Alison Bass also scored in double figures for the Cards, with Kessans finishing with 17 points and Bass adding 15. Carol Brown led U of L on the boards with seven rebounds.

For the 49ers, Jameka Jones had a team-high 18 points and Adrienne Jordan added 14. Alicia Abernathy pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Niners.

The Cardinals (14-7, 7-3 C-USA) wrap up their four-game road trip Monday when they play Saint Louis at 8 p.m. EST.
