Head coach Jeff Walz has announced the signing Cierra Robertson-Warren. Robertson-Warren, a 6-4 post out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., requested a transfer from the University of North Carolina and will sit out the 2010-11 season due to NCAA transfer rules. She will be eligible to play for the Cardinals during the 2011-12 campaign as a sophomore.
"We are excited to have a player of Cierra's caliber joining our program," said Walz. "She will make an immediate impact for us and give us an inside presence that is needed to win in the BIG EAST Conference. She is a very physical player that can score around the basket and create havoc for opposing teams with her shot blocking ability. She has the potential to be one of the top post players in the league."
Robertson-Warren was ranked as high as 18th by some recruiting services. While some publications ranked her as the seventh best center in the country. She also was ranked 31st by ESPN Hoop Gurlz overall and as the 10th best post player. Robertson-Warren led Los Osos in scoring and rebound for three consecutive seasons. As a senior she averaged 18.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. She finished her junior year averaging 22.1 points, 12.9 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game. Her sophomore year she averaged 17.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She is a two-time Baseline League MVP. Robertson-Warren also played AAU basketball with the Cal Sparks Gold team.
During her freshman season with the Tar Heels, Robertson-Warren saw action in all 31 games, averaging 4.2 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She ranked second on the team in blocked shots with 25. She scored a career-high 15 points against Presbyterian College and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds twice. She also blocked a career-high four shots against Duke. Her best collegiate performance was 11 points and nine rebounds against Wake Forest.
