Freshman Bria Smith and sophomore Shoni Schimmel earned postseason honors for the Cardinals in 2012. Smith was named a Full Court Third Team Freshman All-American while Schimmel was named a first team WBCA Region I selection.
Smith is the second consecutive Cardinal named a Full Court Freshman All-American after Schimmel earned the honors last season. She is just one of just 15 freshmen earning All-American honors. Smith ranks third on the team in scoring (9.2 ppg), third on the team in rebounding (4.5 rpg) and second on the team in steals (1.9 spg) after starting every game for the Cardinals. She led the team in free throws, getting to the line 92 times this season while shooting 70 percent. Smith was also a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman team and earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors twice.
Schimmel earns first team honors after leading the Cardinals in scoring, assists, and steals with 14.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. She also ranks third on the team in rebounding with 4.5 boards per game. Schimmel was named a first team All-BIG EAST selection. She finished league play ranked 11th in the in scoring, sixth in assists, and fourth in steals. She was also a preseason All-BIG EAST first team selection and named to the Wooden Watch List.
