Women's Basketball Faces Villanova in the Second Round of the BIG EAST Tournament

Hartford, Conn. - Schimmel and Smith Interviews Louisville women's basketball (21-8) will face Villanova (17-13) on Saturday, March 3 in the second round of the BIG EAST Tournament at 6:00 p.m. in the XL Center. The game will air live on BIG EAST TV, which will be shown locally on WHAS-TV (11.2 digital and 432 on Insight). The Cardinals are coming off a 63-53 win at Seton Hall in the regular season finale on Monday night. The Cardinals are led by the backcourt duo of senior Becky Burke and sophomore Shoni Schimmel. Schimmel leads the team in scoring and assists with 14.0 points and 4.7 assists per game. Burke is second in scoring with 11.8 points per game. Freshman guard Bria Smith rounds out the top scorers with 9.4 points per game. Redshirt freshman Shawnta' Dyer leads the team on the boards with 5.1 rebounds per game. Villanova advanced to the second round after defeating Seton Hall 61-60 in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday evening. Laura Sweeney leads Villanova in scoring and rebounding with 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She also leads the team connecting on 50.5 percent from the field. Lauren Burford ranks second on the team in scoring with 8.6 points per game. She leads the team from behind the arc, making 59 3-pointers while connecting on 41.5 percent from long range. Louisville leads the series 8-0 against Villanova. The Cardinals own a 1-0 record against the Wildcats in the BIG EAST Tournament. The game will be aired live on U of L Radio Network (WKRD 790 AM) with Matt Andrews and Adrienne Johnson calling the action.
