No. 9 Louisville Defeated Eckerd College 83-29, in Exhibition Play

Louisville, Ky. - The ninth ranked Louisville women's basketball team defeated Eckerd College 83-29 in an exhibition game on Wednesday night in the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals finished game with four players in double figures. Senior Monique Reid led the way netting a game-high 13 points, Shawnta' Dyer scored 12, Megan Deines had 11, and Sara Hammond registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. For Eckerd College, Liga Vente scored a team-high 10 points.

For the game, the Cardinals forced the Titans into 41 turnovers and held them 35 percent shooting from the field, while Louisville shot a consistent 41 percent and dished out 16 assists..

During the first half Louisville dictated the pace of the game by showing great ball movement and stellar defense. The Cardinals held the Titans to only 16 shot attempts and 28 percent from 3-point land. As a team, Louisville contributed eight assists and eight steals. The Cards were able to break away from the Titans early on in the first half thanks to a large part to Reid, who saw her first action since suffering a season ending injury against Cincinnati last year. Louisville was able to go on a 17-9 run to end the half with a 36-20 lead.

The Cardinals continued to apply their pressure defense entering the second half. They only allowed nine points to Eckerd College, and contained them to 20 percent from the field. Deines was able to make her presence felt by knocking down two 3-pointers on her way to scoring 11 points in the second half. The Cardinals shot an impressive 44 percent from behind the arc, which helped them rack up 47 second half points.

Louisville will tip off the season against No. 15 Texas A&M on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the KFC YUM! Center.
